Libaran island lies on the north-eastern coast of Sabah, about 40 minutes boat ride from Sandakan and five minutes away from the main islands of Sabah’s Turtle Island Park. Libaran island support about 450 inhabitants whose main livelihood being fishing and boat making. Turtles are known to come ashore and lay their eggs on the island.
Through the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with the Sabah Wildlife Department, a turtle conservation program has been set up on the island. The program includes creating awareness for the locals and visitors on the conservation value of sea turtles, undertaking research projects with the goal of better understanding the life cycle of sea turtles of Libaran island area and to make available research program on sea turtle for international and local students.
As part of the company corporate social responsibilities (CSR), Walai Penyu Resort, Libaran has opened a turtle hatchery and visitors now have the chance to release baby turtles from the hatchery and even see turtles coming on shore to lay eggs.

Arrive at Libaran island. Free and easy. Relax at the sun deck area while enjoying the sun or walk along the beach.

Briefing about the turtles conservation program by our in-house Honorary Wildlife Warden. Visit the turtle hatchery after the briefing (free admission) set up by Walai Penyu Resort with the collaboration of the Sabah Wildlife Department (SWD) an effort to address the threat of the extinction of turtles as well as creating awareness and educate the public.
Walk along the beach to kampong Pulak Libaran, the only village on the island. The village in the island is a small and quiet place surrounded by coconut trees. Here you will be able to see how these villagers carry out their daily routine. They are mainly boat makers, fisherman and fishnet-makers. Enjoy the refreshing coconut juice before you head back to the camp.
Get the chance to release baby turtle while enjoying the sunset.
Dinner and wait for ranger call for turtle sighting.
** Even though record shows turtles come to Libaran island consistently, the sighting is still NOT GUARANTEED.

No advance payment is required, simply pay cash in Ringgit-Malaysia to tour guide. However, you still need pay in full for any cancellation made 1 day prior to tour date.

Please request bank staff to calculate equivalent amount in USD before Telegraphic Transfer (T/T) to Malaysia. It takes 3 days to reach us. No 2.3% surcharge but you have to bear both side banks charges. The balances will be paid to either side as the case may be.
