Exploring Kadazandusun Heritage: The Legacy of Monsopiad
Monsopiad Heritage Village is a living museum that brings to life the rich history, traditions, and customs of the Kadazandusun people. Established on May 1, 1996, this cultural village pays tribute to Monsopiad, a legendary Kadazan warrior and headhunter who lived in the village of Kuai over 300 years ago.
More than just a historical site, the heritage village offers an immersive experience, allowing you to step back in time and witness how the indigenous Kadazandusun community once lived. The village is home to traditional wooden houses, cultural artifacts, and the infamous House of Skulls, where the real remnants of Monsopiad’s battles are displayed.
Through guided tours, traditional performances, and interactive activities, you can engage with local customs, witness age-old rituals, and gain a deeper understanding of the Kadazandusun way of life.
